Heart of the City I is a vibrant and atmospheric limited edition artwork by internationally acclaimed Brazilian-born artist Henderson Cisz, celebrated worldwide for his elegant and romantic cityscapes. Cisz has built an extraordinary reputation for capturing the unique rhythm, character, and charm of some of the world's most iconic destinations. His paintings invite viewers to step into the essence of urban life-where landmark architecture, everyday interactions, and fleeting moments come together in poetic harmony.

Here, Cisz transports us to the heart of Paris, a city he knows and paints with great affection. The Eiffel Tower rises gracefully behind ornate Parisian buildings, instantly setting the scene in one of the most recognisable locations in the world. In the foreground, a lively urban market unfolds, filled with movement, colour, and the joyful bustle of daily life. This human presence-softly rendered yet full of character-is a hallmark of Cisz's work, reminding us that cities are defined not only by structures, but by the people who bring them to life.

Cisz's distinctive style blends impressionistic brushwork with a gentle, refined palette, creating an atmosphere that feels both dreamlike and grounded in reality. Soft, blurred figures give a sense of motion and narrative, while the interplay of architecture, light, and reflections evokes the romantic allure of Parisian streets. The scene glistens with subtle highlights and depth, inviting the viewer to revisit familiar memories of travel, discovery, and cultural elegance.

Created as an embellished limited edition on canvas board, the piece displays wonderful texture and richness. Cisz's hand-applied touches elevate each artwork beyond print into something truly unique and collectable. The artwork is presented beautifully in a modern brushed silver frame with a white inner slip, chosen to enhance the painting's refined palette and offer a stunning contemporary finish that complements any interior.

Whether you are drawn to Paris for its history, its art, or its irresistible sense of romance, Heart of the City I encapsulates everything that makes the city so universally adored. It is an artwork that sparks emotion-joy, nostalgia, wanderlust-and invites viewers to escape into one of the world's most enchanting destinations.

Aldo Balding is a British figurative painter celebrated for his cinematic, narrative-rich oil paintings that capture moments of quiet drama and emotional tension. Born in Southsea, England, in 1960, he studied Illustration and Graphic Design at the University of Southampton's Faculty of Art and Design. He began his creative career in London as a freelance illustrator, contributing to a wide range of editorial and commercial publications before transitioning to painting full-time.

In 2004, Balding relocated to the South of France, where he continues to live and work. His artistic practice is rooted in traditional oil painting techniques, with a focus on tonalism. He typically employs a limited palette of five or six harmonised tones, often mid to dark in value, creating a cohesive atmosphere across his compositions. His work is executed alla prima-wet-in-wet and direct-often completed in two or three days, allowing spontaneity and fluidity to guide the process.

Balding's paintings are known for their suggestive storytelling. Scenes often depict figures engaged in subtle gestures or quiet moments, inviting viewers to imagine the context and narrative. Posture and body language play a significant role in his compositions, with figures conveying emotion and intention without overt facial expression. There is a deliberate ambiguity in his work-spatial distortions, cropping, and muted environments contribute to the sense that something has just happened or is about to unfold. This gives his work a cinematic, almost voyeuristic quality.

While rooted in realism, his brushwork maintains a painterly texture, revealing confident marks and soft edges. Up close, the surface is rich with expressive detail; from a distance, the scenes resolve into clear, cohesive images. Balding's subject matter often includes people in cafés, interior spaces, or urban settings, sometimes styled in vintage clothing to enhance the timeless quality of the composition. He aims to remove era-specific cues, creating work that feels both nostalgic and current.

Over the course of his career, Aldo Balding has exhibited extensively in solo and group exhibitions across the UK, Europe, and South Africa. His work has been shown in respected galleries and international art fairs, and he has participated in prestigious exhibitions including those with portrait societies and oil painting institutions. He has also received multiple awards and recognitions, including best-in-show accolades and finalist positions in prominent competitions.

In addition to his studio practice, Balding has completed numerous portrait commissions, capturing public figures, business leaders, and sports personalities. His works are held in both private and public collections across Europe, North America, and Africa.

Balding also shares his knowledge through teaching, leading workshops in portraiture and figurative painting throughout the year. His sessions explore his personal approach to light, gesture, composition, and direct painting, and are hosted in picturesque locations across France.

Now based in the Languedoc-Roussillon region, Aldo Balding continues to refine his unique style-where mood, tone, and human presence converge to form compelling visual narratives.
